Research Advisor: Prof. Ana Arias

BETR Research Thrust: Printed and Flexible Electronics

Bio

Karthik Gopalan received a B.S. in Physics and a B.S. in Computer Science from the University of Maryland, College Park in 2015. He is currently a Ph.D. candidate in the EECS department of UC Berkeley where he develops coils and phantoms for magnetic resonance imaging. He has also worked at Xerox PARC designing and building inkjet printers for printed electronic applications.

Research

Karthik Gopalan works on developing new manufacturing methods to make customized hardware for magnetic resonance imaging (MRI). Specifically, he uses vacuum forming, CNC machining, and electroless plating to make RF receive coil arrays to produce high resolution MR images. In addition, he uses 3D printing to make MRI phantoms that mimic human anatomy.
