The Berkeley Emerging Technologies Research (BETR) Center is a hub of physical electronics research at the University of California, Berkeley. As the signature legacy project of the NSF Science & Technology Center for Energy Efficient Electronics Science, the BETR Center serves as a nexus for interactions with companies for long-term research collaborations and knowledge transfer. Member companies enjoy broad access to BETR Center faculty and students who are building the technological foundation for future electronic devices and information systems.
Research activities in the BETR Center encompass a wide range from the search for new materials and manufacturing processes to the development of novel computing and memory devices and the design of heterogeneous integrated systems. Focussing on innovation in materials, processes and solid-state devices for future ubiquitous information systems, the BETR Center directly addresses main challenges for ambient intelligence to become a reality, including the looming power crisis for computing, the advent of the internet of things, and the proliferation of big data applications.
The BETR Center hosts a range of educational events, including center-wide workshops and seminars presented by researchers from UC Berkeley, other universities, national labs, and industry. Most events are simulcast using videoconferencing tools and recordings are made available to registered members of the BETR Center through our website (please see Resources tab).
