Postdoctoral Researcher

Research Advisor: Prof. Ali Javey

BETR Research Thrust: Photonics and Optical Interconnects

Bio

Dr. Naoki Higashitarumizu is a postdoctoral fellow in Electrical Engineering and Computer Sciences at UC Berkeley, with a joint appointment as postdoctoral fellow in the Materials Science Division at Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory. He received a Ph.D. degree in material engineering from The University of Tokyo in 2020, and was a postdoctoral fellow at The University of Tokyo in 2020. Dr. Higashitarumizu then joined Javey Research Group from September 2020.

Research

Dr. Higashitarumizu’s research interests span the fields of solid-state electronics, photonics and optoelectronics, and nanomanufacturing. His research focuses on the exploration of novel nanomaterials for next-generation optical and electronic applications, including integrated optical devices, sensors and actuators, and energy harvesting. Currently, he is working on strain engineering of light-emitting devices based on two-dimensional layered semiconductors such as transition-metal dichalcogenides and black phosphorus for high-performance optoelectronic applications.
