Research Advisor: Prof. Sayeef Salahuddin

BETR Research Thrust: Millivolt Switches

Bio

Urmita Sikder received the B.S. and M.S. degrees in Electrical and Electronic Engineering from Bangladesh University of Engineering and Technology. They received the Ph.D. degree in Electrical Engineering and Computer Sciences from University of California at Berkeley, CA, USA in 2021. Their Ph.D. research focused on energy efficient systems, monolithic integration, and non-volatile memory technologies. They are currently affiliated with the Department of Electrical Engineering and Computer Sciences at University of California at Berkeley as a postdoctoral researcher. Their current research focuses on process development for fabrication of high-performance RF transistors on a CMOS platform.

Research

Urmita Sikder’s research is focused on innovating new technologies for faster and more energy-efficient computation/ communication. They achieved the first functional multi-layered nano-electromechanical (NEM) switches implemented with back-end-of-line (BEOL) metal interconnect layers in a conventional CMOS fabrication process. They also demonstrated novel hybrid NEM-CMOS circuits for ultra-low-power computing using a standard 16nm CMOS process. Their current research is focused on optimizing the fabrication process for RF transistors with ultra-scaled gate lengths on a CMOS platform.
